Court Security
Court security officers are law enforcement officers who are responsible for all security aspects of a courthouse, including ensuring that the judges and judicial staff, court employees and general public visiting the courthouse are safe. These officers are charged with managing metal detectors, ensuring that no weapons are brought into the courthouse, include watching doorways to check for suspicious activity, and that the public complies with building safety rules.
During court proceedings, court officers observe all parties present to ensure proper behavior and overall public safety. Court officers enforce the judge’s courtroom regulations and ensure that prisoners, jury members and witnesses have their needs taken care of. They may also be in charge of supervising jurors during a trial, which could include transporting the jurors to and from eating establishments, hotels and responsible for their security.
